This is just a glimpse of the recklessness about to ensue. Covid is as dangerous to unleash on the naive public (physically and mentally) as influenza, if not worse. What this means for those "at risk groups" is devastating. Having a 60 year policy of vetted experts examine the many angles involved in decisions based on the impact of infectious disease spread, is a complex strategy which considers the best outcome for society as a whole. It is not the luxury this administration would claim. This is moving us towards privatization of health care which will be a furthering of what divides the rich from the poor. Certainly not our tax dollars for the benefit of all. Not making "America great again", but making "America great for some".

You must work or used to work for pharmaceutical companies. The fact that your called unbiased science is laughable. The whole system is rigged in favor of vaccines. He has to go around them. They are bought and paid for. Try reading The Politics of Cancer. The revolving door between government and pharma is unacceptable. Their tentacles are attached in every way from the colleges to the congress. There are no safe vaccines, especially the clot shot you apparently believe in.

You're definitely off my reliable reading list. I'm sure you are well meaning but definitely misguided.

A public health scientist, two pediatricians, and an immunologist wrote this. We do this because we want to help people. None of us ever worked for or currently works for pharma. Is it possible that you're the misguided one?

My point exactly. Written by people in the system and trained by the system. It is very hard to find unbiased science because so much of it has been funded by the pharmaceutical industry. I would encourage you all to be open minded and follow the money. If it was funded by them then look elsewhere. Be open to another point of view. More and more doctors and pediatricians are starting see the opposite viewpoint and understand the other studies as not conspiracy. Many have seen the damage and don't want to align themselves anymore with that system anymore. Unfortunately many are stuck under the standard of care rules and can't see a way out. I value the hard work and time it took to get where you and these others are but what I don't value is the attack made on opposing views when it especially comes to vaccines and especially Covid shots. RFK jr has spent decades studying the opposite viewpoint and looking at the dangers Spend some time looking at his work. I personally have seen so much damage done in my family and families around me. Even if I wasn't trained in Natural Medicine I would be able to spot the hazards.

Look outside the USA.. I can understand your concern that money talks, but the other countries have very different financial incentives and yet back vaccines...

My husband works for Big Pharma! Yay, science! You do understand that they make maybe 10% of their revenue from vaccines, right? Something people get once a year is not nearly as profitable as daily meds or emergent meds.

I know dedicated scientists and researchers who spend their work days trying to improve health and make life better.

You might consider that you are misguided. Because if you weren’t, you would realize that even if Big Pharma was horribly corrupt, there are agencies that are there to regulate things.

Did Big Pharma fail during the opioid crisis? Absolutely. But, they do so much good, and I am sorry you cannot see it.

Peter McCullough is a spreader of mis and dis information. He used his credentials from Baylor to assert his expertise, when he was no longer employed by Baylor. He makes lots of claims with zero data to support them.

No medication is right for everyone. No vaccine will be right for everyone. But, regulatory bodies make decisions on what will benefit the majority.

Seriously? What about countries like Canada, Denmark, Australia & New Zealand that do not have large Big Pharma employers, and where "big pharma" products are "cost items"? Yet they all recommended and used the CoVid vaccines..

Is there any mention of the risk involved in vaccinating children with the COVID Vax? Especially young men? I chose to take my chances with COVID- as a healthy adult - and not risk cardio issues down the road. I did the same for my teenage son. We all have to make our own decisions on this- but the fact that the powers that be recommend it blindly is a sin. I agree with what RFK Jr did- 100%

David Higgins, MD, MPH's avatar

Yes, your question about risk in different age groups like young men is incredibly important and it’s been a difficult one that has been the focus of transparent, public debate among independent advisors and expert committees. Of course we should want to understand those risks clearly yeah, we should keep asking those questions. It would be a tragedy if any vaccine were recommended blindly!

I don’t make vaccine recommendation without careful consideration. My recommendations and those of independent advisory committees are based on rigorous, independent review of the data, the evidence, and the risk-benefit balance. Are they perfect? No, of course not and we should work to improve those systems.

I can understand how the article might come across as political. The irony is, it’s actually calling out deeply political decisions that bypassed and undermined the rigorous scientific review process to give people the best information possible so they are free to make the best informed decisions about their health.

Sorry you feel this way! Writing about science and health policy is imperative as it impacts the way that science is implemented and reaches the public. This is an analysis of ways that policies will impact our access to vaccines and, by extension, our health.

I think I will take RFK’s advice to NOT base my health decision-making on his opinion. I’ll just have to do my own research. Unfortunately, the average American does not have the background to “do their own research” or sift misinformation from the facts. It is becoming increasingly clear that these guys are all unqualified for policy-making in the arena they preside over by virtue of appointment by a despotic village idiot.

Pregnant women are at higher risk of life-threatening clots that cause strokes and pulmonary embolism. COVID also increases the risk of life-threatening clots that cause strokes and pulmonary embolism. The two together are even more dangerous. This is reckless, politically motivated, and bad science.

Regardless of anything, I’d like to be able to choose. Remember when people were very upset that they HAD to be vaccinated to do certain things or go certain places? Remember how angry having choice removed felt? This is the same, but happens to be for the “other” group. Public health is political. This country has revolved around the freedom of choice (or at least the illusion of choice) since its foundation. Systematically removing a covered healthcare option without going through the system we have in place to make policy changes is reckless. Period. There isn’t an argument here. We build systems to keep power in check and when those are bypassed and people cheer, we have more than human health at risk.

I think your framing here is a little misleading. For example, we drive our cars on the right hand side of the road in North America. I think we all want government authorities to enforce this.

More salient perhaps ... Do you remember when "the government" mandated wearing seat belts? (Showing my age here..). I can recall lots of people objecting to this "terrible government overreach".

Actually, there are a lot of decisions that need to be made communally.

Expand full comment
Brittany Alperin, PhD's avatar

That’s fair. That’s not really the point of my comment, and also why said the illusion of choice. The point was that we have processes in place to make decisions. When those are bypassed, it’s not only reckless, it sets a president to just ignore the system’s we’ve put in place to keep the government in check. Regardless of what anyone thinks is right or wrong, good or bad, we have a process.
