The Dose: Spooky Science
Spooky Science Experiments, Respiratory Season, & Breast Cancer Awareness
Welcome to The Dose! We’re delivering bi-weekly health and science updates right to your inbox, and we’re including some humor, art, and fun along the way.
Respiratory illness season is upon us. We know folks are sick of talking about vaccines, but that doesn’t mean we can let our guard down when it comes to our health, particularly during this time of the year. On this week’s episode of the pod, we’re discussing the latest on flu, RSV, and Covid-19. You can listen here.
Speaking of RSV and vaccines… if you’re reading this and you’re 60 years or older, you should consider getting the RSV vaccine. Even better, you can schedule it to take place at the same time as your flu and Covid vaccines.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and while most everyone is aware of breast cancer, it’s important to also be aware of the statistics, the risk factors, and even the disparities. In October of 2022, we shared this infographic, chock full of helpful information.
This October, we’d also like to give a shout out to Dr. Liz O’Riordan. A friend to the pod, an incredible doctor/educator/podcaster/motivational speaker, and a breast cancer warrior, in the midst of her third battle. Liz has written a book and several articles about her experiences, as well as multiple interviews and keynote speeches. You can find more about her journey here. We were fortunate to have her on our season 3 finale of the podcast, discussing breast cancer screening myths. If you missed it, it’s definitely worth a listen!
There’s still plenty of time to inject some science into this spooky season! Check out this awesome roundup of Halloween science experiements. Glowing slime, anyone?
