The next time you’re sick and want to take antibiotics, make sure you’re trying to treat a bacterial infection and not a viral infection. Overuse of antibiotics creates resistance. A systematic review in The Lancet estimated that in 2019, nearly 4.95 million deaths globally were associated with antibiotic-resistant infections. More than that, overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this growing problem. Learn more about antimicrobial resistance here.
Onions, good to eat, not so good for your feet (or other areas of your body!). Despite what the Tik Tok “Docs” are saying, onions don’t have magical healing/detoxifying/antimicrobial abilities. But feel free to enjoy them on your next salad or sandwich!
We left no scone unturned in our latest pod episode. (See what we did there?!) Despite what pop culture wants us to believe, gluten isn’t the enemy (unless, of course, you have Celiac disease or a wheat allergy). Check out our recent conversation with Dr. Dave Stukus to learn more.
The James Webb Space Telescope continues to fascinate and delight with the stunning photos it has been able to capture. Take a look at these 19 images, and make sure to leave a comment letting us know which one is your favorite!
The new JWST image reveals multitudes of newly-formed and still-forming stars never seen before. These stars sculpt the pillars with their intense radiation. (Image credit: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI; Joseph DePasquale (STScI), Anton M. Koekemoer (STScI), Alyssa Pagan (STScI).)

Birds of a feather… Adults and kids alike will appreciate this video from the Scientific American, which provides a glimpse of a project created by The Moore Lab of Zoology at Occidental College. They are working to create high definition virtual representations of 2,000 of their 60,000 bird specimens. The online collection will showcase many rare specimens and provide researchers, students, and bird lovers the opportunity to see these beautiful creatures up close and personal.
That’s it for this issue!
