Welcome to The Dose! We’re delivering bi-weekly health and science updates right to your inbox, and we’re including some humor, art, and fun along the way.
Who knew that milk was such a controversial topic? Raw vs. pasteurized. Cow milk vs. soy milk vs. almond milk. Milk production and the environment. We’ve heard the questions, we’ve been doing the research, & we’re releasing an entire series on MILK! Parts 1 and 2 are already out, so make sure to catch up if you haven’t. They’re pretty moo-velous, if we do say so ourselves!
Part 1 discusses the health implications of drinking milk. What’s the nutritional value? Why is raw milk unsafe? What about the hormones in cow milk?
Part 2 looks at cow milk for children. Is it good for them? Are there alternatives? When can you start giving cow milk to infants?
We’ll also be discussing animal welfare and the environmental impact of the dairy industry, so keep an eye out for those posts in the near future!
We’re not discussing what came first, the chicken or the egg. But we are sharing this interesting development in the world of egg allergies. Ovomucoid (OVM) is the protein on an egg that’s most likely to trigger an egg allergy. But researchers in Japan have used gene editing technology to help chickens lay eggs without OVM. You can read more about the breakthrough here.
Still craving some eggs-cellent information about eggs? Then check out this fun video from The Sci Guys, which explores “naked” eggs and osmosis.
Did you know we have a database with all of our sources? That’s right! You can go to uspodsources.com and type in key words like organic, sunscreen, lyme disease, & vaccines to access the studies, reports, infographics and more. Best of all? This resource is FREE!
