“leading with your humanity.”

As a life-long, retired educator, those words, in particular, stood out for me.

It is obviously one of your talents, and that’s a damn good speech to people setting out on any career at the moment.

What an excellent and pivoting solutions focused description of the current situation. Thank you Jess. I loved your whole message.

Great speech, Jess. That next generation needs and deserves that sort of encouragement as they run into the building my generation set on fire. Empathy, compassion, and humanity are the only ways to put that fire out. Keep fighting the good fights!

Brilliant. Sad. And so essential.

And remember that while you are gone on this trip, your children are thinking about you. You are a role model for them and they are learning that you are making choices that are hard but rewarding. Their futures were enhanced by your actions.

Jess, Those comments are everything!!! What beautiful support from your family.

And, I am so pleasantly surprised by this specific alignment after our call today: “What is your origin story?” is the exact question at the heart of Etalia’s foundational exercise — we call it Reconnect — because we’ve found that the moment a scientist relocates why they ran toward the building in the first place, something in their whole communication presence shifts. The personal POV also becomes irreplaceable by AI.

What you described on that NYU stage about feeling certain you’d lose your voice, but then laser-focused and excited the second you stepped out is THE threshold. The nerves don’t disappear. They just get interpreted differently. That’s the whole thing. 🚀

Thanks for sharing your humanity as a working mom! Looking forward to continuing the conversation.

I’m reminded of having my three sons in the audience as I gave (a much less auspicious) speech at my inauguration into the Presidency of the IL Academy of Family Physicians. They were not as kind as your children but the three preteen/teen boy dynamic was in force. They wrote notes critiquing my speech that said, “we love you and support you, mom” in a way only they could do with their special brand of teasing. Interesting how that’s the one thing that stands out most memorably.

Congratulations most especially for being a hero to your children! It may appear to wane a bit as they grow in age but will undoubtedly return since you are such a shining example of good work.

Science had been attacked in the past when religious zealots massacred many people they labeled witches and other vile names. Science survived them even when some had to recant their scientific theories. Eppur si muove.

But no one person ever "is the science". Mistakes were made during the COVID years and many died with and without the contrived vaccine (they had to change the definition of vaccine to make it include mRNA, a completely bad move).

Virginia D Fish's avatar

This doesn't make sense or reflect the lives saved by vaccination.

JB's avatar

The definition only 'changed' in a way to make it more accurate wording for what a vaccine, ANY VACCINE, actually does and what they have ALWAYS done. You can thank the internet, who cannot apply critical thinking, for that, I suppose. But either way, the function of vaccines did not change. It's so fascinating that a couple of phrases on a page that nobody ever read prior to 2021 are so triggering for a subset of the population. Almost like a straw-grasping or something.

RichC's avatar

You are amazingly incorrect. A vaccine, by definition, has some component of the infection, normally attenuated, in it. Other mechanisms to aid the body to fight, or substance to directly kill something, are therapies. The definition changed in order to get “buy-in” and to unleash this flawed technology on the masses.

Further, if anyone read my comment and thought it to be anti-vax you are sorely mistaken and victims of the MSM and consistently biased intelligence.

JB's avatar

LOL, Rich, I'm not incorrect. LOOK IT UP. You can easily find the before and after definitions. DO THAT before commenting further. Read the words. It will only take you about 2 minutes to do that.

Next, look up how many of our current vaccines on the market are live attenuated virus vaccines. (spoiler: it's not many). Again, when you have done Step 1 above, you will see it was not just about mRNA vaccines.

Further, you bought right into the propaganda that was shoveled out about mRNA technology, it's quite clear just from the 2 comments you've made here. If that's not the case, you should reframe your arguments because it sounds like you have only researched one side of this coin.

RichC's avatar

I said Live or attenuated fully knowing attenuated is the better choice as shown with the polio vaccine, Salk vs Sabin, look it up. either of us have any idea if live vaccines are used anywhere anymore though I would look to Cub, Russia and a few other regions to find it. You do not seem to have any evidence of studying any facet of medicine or at least Life Sciences. I highly suggest you do some actual research, even if it is tertiary in nature.

Tell us about being amazingly incorrect, Dr. Science - “A vaccine, by definition, has some component of the infection, normally attenuated, in it.”
